This is another preview page from part 2 of Return to Walden Earth. Still messing around with noise settings and overlays. It’s been pretty fun doing these pages. The Photoshop brush set really helps a lot.

Part II Preview Page 1

This is a preview of part 2. I took out the text boxes for the site so that it wouldn’t ruin the surprise. They cover up some of the more unfinished areas, but that’s pretty much the only difference.

As you can see, Nillard Daw is in a bind. I’m still playing with the “noise” setting and the overlay as well. Those might change, but the rest will probably stay the same.

Character Design Stuff

We’ve been working on the character designs over the past week. This is one example of the way it’s coming along:

Matt sent me this drawing of Nillard Daw, and I did a little bit of sketchy painting over it just to establish the color scheme. Daw figures HIGHLY into the beginning of part 2 of the Return to Walden Earth. I feel like I will be able to have a preview page from part two up by Tuesday.

Update – Script Laid Out

So, the script for Return to Walden Earth is nearing finalization. I had an old script that we decided to take down to just plot-points that cannot be changed. That is pretty much done, so it’s just a matter of time before we get some pages up.

My brother is going to do one part, and I will do the other. We haven’t decided who’s going to do part one or part two. I figure that whoever is doing part one will post pages with dialog, and we will “preview” what’s going on in part two as to not give away the entire story before it’s done.

Like I said before, we haven’t decided the exact format of the blog as we go through the process.

Here’s another sketchy thing I worked on today for fun. It’s got some issues, but I like that hand-drawn kinda messed-up look.

Hello again! Its time for Mr. Pigwagums! Im trying to make the whole process as streamlined as possible and with this technique it worked pretty well. About 3 hours. Also we decided to submit the comic for the Xeric grant, so the submission pages are gonna be B.A. Keep your eyes peeled for an art explosion extreme! You may need goggles for it!

I just got back from a long Labor Day break. I had no computer or internet, so I couldn’t get any work up.

Before I left I saw that the Xeric Grant for self-publishing comic books will hold only one more competition, in February 2012. After that, the Xeric Grant for comic book creators will be no more. This changes a lot for my brother and I. We want to self-publish, and have always wanted to apply for the Xeric Grant, but have shied away from it. Now we don’t have a choice – we’re going to apply for the 2012 Xeric Grant.

The blog will now cover that process. I think I will include some of the more mundane parts of the process, as well, but I haven’t decided for sure. Win or not, we will have a lot of work done by the time we apply, and the blog will be full of new art and comic pages. That’s good enough for me.

For Xeric, we will be working from the Walden Earth script laid out in the “info” section. Currently, we’re going over the script and finalizing the chapters and structure one last time before we start the work. It’s hard to predict how long this will take, so I don’t know when we will “officially” start beginning to post pages.

So, while the blog isn’t a true web comic per se, it will basically have the same end result – pages posted a couple times per week (maybe Tues, Thurs?).

Also, Spectrum 18 will be out Novermber 15th, and one of our pictures made it into the book. Check out the “info” section to see it.  We’re gonna restructure the whole blog before that book hits the shelves so it is more easily navigable, just in case we get any newcomers (or “comers” at all, haha).
